William "Bill" Howard Parker, 91, entered the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 7, 2026. He died at home with his family around him. His life was marked by unwavering faith, devoted love for his family, humble service to others, and a steadfast commitment to Christ that touched countless lives.
Bill was born on December 16, 1934, in Detroit, Michigan. Shortly after his birth, he was adopted by Elmer and Anna Mae Parker. He spent his early years in East Dearborn before moving at the age of fourteen with his family to Nankin Township, settling on Venoy Road in what is now Westland, Michigan. He graduated from Wayne Memorial High School in 1953.
Following graduation, Bill served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve from 1953 to 1959. He attended Henry Ford Community College, where he studied civil engineering. His career included positions with Garwood Industries in Wayne, Brender and Brender Architecture and Engineering, and ultimately Ford Motor Company, where he served as an engineer and estimator in the Construction Services Department at the Rouge Plant until his retirement.
At the age of sixteen, Bill placed his faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. That decision became the foundation upon which he built every other aspect of his life. His salvation changed everything in his life. He now had hope, purpose, direction and a future of following Jesus. By that great salvation God has impacted all of our lives today.
While visiting East Bernstadt, Kentucky, Bill met the love of his life, Billie Jean Cornelius. They were married at East Bernstadt Baptist Church on September 22, 1956. This September they would have celebrated their seventieth wedding anniversary. Together they built a home on Venoy Road in Westland, where they lovingly raised their two sons, Wayne Howard and Barry Douglas. Bill often said he had been blessed with "a lovely wife who was my life partner, best traveling co-pilot, and the finest companion any man could have."
In 1959, Bill and Billie became members of Merriman Road Baptist Church in Garden City. For more than six decades, the church became the place where Bill faithfully lived out his love for Christ by serving others. He taught and directed Sunday School, served as a trustee and deacon, and faithfully led as Chairman of the Deacons for thirty-two years. Yet titles never defined his ministry. Bill simply saw what needed to be done and quietly did it. Whether repairing something, helping a family in need, offering wise counsel, encouraging someone who was discouraged, or discipling believers to grow deeper in their walk with Christ, he served with humility and joy.
Perhaps Bill's greatest gift was hospitality. Everyone who walked through the church doors found a warm smile, a kind word, and someone genuinely interested in their life. He made people feel welcome, cared for, and loved. His life reflected the servant's heart of Christ.
Bill also found great joy in God's creation. He loved bow hunting, hiking, fishing, and camping. Wanting to share those experiences with his young family, he even built his own fiberglass canoe so they could enjoy time together on the water. After retirement, Bill and Billie purchased a motorhome and spent several wonderful years traveling throughout North America, making memories together while exploring the beauty of God's world.
Nothing brought Bill greater delight than his family, especially his grandchildren. He often said one of God's greatest blessings in his life was his seven grandchildren: Autumn (Brian) Wade, Weston Parker, Evan (Lauren) Parker, Caleb (Donna) Parker, Shannon (Brandon) Loewen, Kayla (Edward) De La Portilla, and Micah (Rindi) Parker. He treasured every opportunity to spend time with them, encouraging them, praying for them, and celebrating the unique people God created them to be. Watching them grow into adulthood was one of the greatest joys of his life. Bill and his wife Billie have 15 Great grandchildren.
Bill will be remembered as a man of integrity, quiet strength, generosity, and unwavering faith. His greatest earthly treasures were his family, his church, and the Savior he faithfully followed. His life demonstrated that true greatness is found not in recognition but in faithfully serving God and loving people.
He leaves behind a legacy of faith that will continue to influence generations to come. Though his family grieves his absence, they rejoice in the assurance that because of his faith in Jesus Christ, he is now home in the presence of the Lord he loved and served so faithfully.
