William Clarence Fried

William Clarence Fried of Livonia, age 87, passed away on December 19, 2025.

Husband of Barbara Fried for 60 years. Loving father of Marcus Fried, Kristina (Jakub) Stefka, Jason Fried and Rebecca (Dan) Whalen.

Dear grandfather of Maxwell and Sidney, Anja and Andrew, Maeve and Charlie. Great grandfather of Maya.

Bill was born in Saginaw, Michigan and raised until the age of eight by his father and then his grandmother. After they both passed away, he lived with his loving Aunt Dorothy and 3 cousins in Muskogee Oklahoma. He went to Oklahoma University in Norman and transferred to University of Michigan where he completed his undergraduate degree and then his Law Degree in 1964. He met his wife Barbara there and they married in June of 1965. They lived in Detroit until 1972 when they moved to Livonia.He worked for Arthur Young and Company in Detroit and later opened his Law office in Livonia t 1978. Bill was always active in community organizations including Burton Hollow Swim Club, the Spree Committee, the Hearts of Livonia, the Livonia Symphony, Rotary, and the Livonia Community Foundation, He attended meetings or functions almost five nights a week. He loved meeting with his friends on these committees. As the children were growing up, he would take them to Soccer games or swim practice as needed. Barbara taught school in Detroit for 27 years before she retired in 2004. Right up to the last month before he became too ill to participate, Bill went to AM Rotary meetings with the help of his son Jason and his good friends in Rotary.

The family will gather this summer to celebrate his life.

A visitation will be held at the R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Home, 15451 Farmington Rd., Livonia, Tuesday, December 23, 2025 from 1:00 PM until his Memorial Service at 4:00 PM.
