Veda May Griffy Andrews, loving and beloved woman, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great–grandmother, aunt, cousin, mother-in-law and friend, died July 24 at age 90. Veda’s husband of 72 years, Raymond Chester Andrews, died on July 21, so they weren’t separated long. She was a lively woman who laughed a lot and enjoyed life immensely. She and Ray were young parents, having married when they were just weeks past their 18th birthdays and they nurtured and guided their children with loving attention. Veda bowled, played softball, golfed and loved the beach. She was a life-long Tigers fan. She especially loved Grand Haven and she and Ray realized a long-held dream of living there during their first years of retirement. Veda May Griffy was born on January 12, 1928 in Detroit to Lee and Doris (Joliffe) Griffy. She met Ray at Redford High School and they planned and led a life that was filled with joy as well as life’s losses and heartache. A devoted Christian, Veda was a PK (preacher’s kid) and grew up with the Bible and the certainty of eternal life. She is survived by her daughter Karen Sue Andrews Seitz (Michael) and her son Kenneth Lee Andrews (Jacqueline); her grandchildren Matthew Parks (Kelley), Erica Fontan (Anthony), Ken Andrews (Nichole), Nicole Seitz and Jody Seitz; her grandchildren Jessica, Chelsea, Jennifer, Elisabeth, Samantha, Tyler, Taylor, Irene, Brittany, Libby and Gabe; her great-grandchild Camryn; her cousin Eileen O’Gorman. She is predeceased by her beautiful sister Gladys Griffy, her loving brother Raymond Griffy, her beloved cousin Barbara O’Gorman Clawson and her infant granddaughter Kelly. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation ( http://www.parkinson.org/). Please share a memory of Veda by writing on her tribute wall.
