Shirley Frances Boryczka, May 2, 1945 – May 21, 2025, Livonia, Michigan
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Shirley Frances Boryczka, 80, of Livonia, Michigan, who passed away quietly at her home in Livonia on May 21, 2025.
Born on May 2, 1945, Shirley was the youngest child of Nora and Maurice Riordan, Irish immigrants. She was a proud graduate of Holy Redeemer High School, Class of 1964, in Detroit. In 1966, she married Joseph Tabone, with whom she raised a family. In 1991, she married Frank Boryczka, gained two stepchildren, and shared many happy years together until his passing in 2016.
Shirley had a deep love for her Irish roots and for all things Irish. She embraced her ancestry with joy and pride. At the same time, she was a devoted U.S. citizen who loved her country deeply.
She is survived by her children: Tricia Edwards (Frank), Jennifer Liberadski (Tony), Adam Boryczka (Elisa), and Aaron Boryczka (Jessica); and by her beautiful grandchildren: Brenden, Matthew, Madeline, Lilly, and Jack. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Boryczka and her former husband Joseph Tabone.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by her parents, Nora and Maurice Riordan, and her beloved sisters: Nora Murphy, Mary Tomasik, Eileen Mallon, Kathleen Bonnici, and Patricia Mroczka.
Shirley spent many years working in market research and earned the respect of her colleagues and clients. She was known for her feisty determination and stubbornness, her faith in God, and her love for her family and many friends. Fiercely protective and unselfishly giving, she always went the extra mile for those she held dear. Her never-ending stories will be held forever within our hearts—treasured reminders of her wit, warmth, and spirit.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Edith Catholic Church, 15089 Newburgh Rd, Livonia, MI 48154, on Friday July 25th at 11:00 a.m. Shirley will later be laid to rest alongside her husband Frank at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Father Solanus Casey Center in Detroit, a place close to Shirley’s heart.
Shirley’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
