Robert “Bob” Charles Wheeker, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away on May 21st at the age of 96. He was born 1928 to his parents, Walter and Louise Wheeker, in Detroit, Michigan. He and his loving wife Carroll resided happily in their home in Livonia, Michigan for 69 years where they raised three children.
Bob served in the U.S. Army at the Artillery Center in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma for two years and remained in the Army Reserve for an additional 6 years. He received the Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Metal during his time served.
Bob received a career diploma in architecture from the International Correspondence Schools in Scranton, PA. He also studied at Lawrence Institute of Technology and spent his 41 year career as an Architectural Draftsman for the Detroit Edison Company. He was involved in many high-profile projects including the design drawing of the Fermi 2 power plant in Monroe. Bob retired at the age of 60.
Bob was followed in his death by his wife Carroll three days later. They were married for over 70 years. He was proceeded in death by his brother Richard (Dick) on March 27th. He is survived by his brother, David Wheeker (Jan). Bob and Carroll leave three children; Janet Marshall (Rick), Joanne Mancini (Gary) and Brian Wheeker (Lani), five grandchildren; Brandon Mancini (Alicia), Amanda Frayne (Chris), Kelly Marshall (Kelsey), Jeffrey Wheeker and Sarah Marshall and by four great-grandchildren; Colton Mancini, Adalyn Frayne, Everleigh Mancini and Riley Frayne. Bob also has numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
Bob was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed playing baseball, squash, and bowling in his younger years. He was especially competitive in Ping Pong (Table Tennis) and won local city tournaments. Bob also loved to golf and played in a league until his 90th birthday. He enjoyed watching sports on TV, including all Detroit professional teams as well as University of Michigan football.
Bob valued God, family and health above all else. He was fully devoted to his wife and family and worked hard to provide them with a wonderful life. He was always thoughtful, kind and friendly to anyone he met. All who were blessed to know him loved him and his warm disposition. He will be dearly missed.
A funeral service will be held at Newburg Methodist Church, 36500 Ann Arbor Trail, Livonia, MI on June 6th beginning at 11:00 a.m. with the visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. Bob will be laid to rest at Parkview Memorial Cemetery, 34205 Five Mile Road, Livonia, MI following the service, supported by a military honor guard.
