Rita Mary Garbus

May 31, 1930 — January 18, 2025

Rita Mary Garbus (nee Kobak) passed away January 18, 2025, at the age of 94.  Born to Polish immigrants, the late Stanley and Mary Kobak, in Detroit, Michigan, she was the beloved wife of the late Edward Garbus.   A loving mother of the late Linda (Mark) Sisson, Cynthia (Jay) Gooch, the late Leslie Ann and the late Edward Jr., the devoted Grandmother of Anne (Jaydon) Walton, Mark (Kate) Sisson, the late Matthew Sisson, Lindsey (Matthew) Bahner, Benjamin Gooch, and the adoring Great Grandmother to Noah and Amelia Walton.  Rita was preceded in death by her brothers Raymond, Walter, Leonard, Chester, Stanley and twin sister Theresa Stawara.  She is survived by beloved sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

Rita’s life was marked by a 57-year unwavering devotion to the care and enrichment of her disabled son, Edward.

A brief visitation will be held at 10:30am followed by Mass of Christian Burial, St. Colette’s Catholic Church 17600 Newburgh Rd, Livonia Mich.

In lieu of flowers the family welcomes you to consider a donation to either the Alzheimer’s Foundation (www.alzfdn.org) or Families of SMA (www.curesma.org).
