Richard L. Fountain

May 8, 1940 — Jun 16, 2026

Richard Lee Fountain, affectionately known as Dick, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026, at the age of 86. He was born on May 8, 1940.

Dick was the beloved husband of the late Charlotte Fountain, with whom he shared 58 wonderful years of marriage. He was a loving and devoted father to Sharon (Edward) Holob and Richard (Stacy) Fountain. He was a cherished grandfather to Melissa (Marc) Streasick, Wallace Fountain, and Liam Fountain. And in his final weeks, a great grandfather to Tala and Faylen Streasick.

From an early age, Dick fell in love with trains while watching them pass by his childhood home. What began as a childhood fascination grew into a lifelong passion. He was fortunate to turn that passion into a career when he joined Grand Trunk Western Railroad as a clerk, where he worked until his retirement.

Dick's dedication to railroads extended far beyond his career. He was a founding member and former chairman of the Michigan Transit Museum in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. He also volunteered countless hours helping with train rides and served as editor of the museum's newsletter, sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm with fellow railroad enthusiasts and visitors alike.

When he wasn't working with trains, Dick could often be found chasing them, photographing them, or simply enjoying the sight of them. Photography was another passion of his, and he took great pride in developing and hand-printing his photographs at home, many of which he sold and shared with others.

As a husband and father, Dick created countless cherished memories through family vacations and road trips. No journey was complete without stopping to see a train track or passing train along the way. He also enjoyed landscaping around his home and spending time with his family.

Dick was a quiet and humble man whose life was centered on his wife, children, and grandchildren. His unwavering devotion, gentle nature, and love for family will be remembered always. He leaves behind a legacy of treasured memories, stories, and sayings that his family will carry forward for generations to come.

In accordance with Dick's wishes, no formal service will be held at this time. The family plans to honor them with a Celebration of Life at a later date. It is only fitting that they be celebrated side by side, just as they shared their lives. Details for the Celebration of Life are pending at this time. Please reach out to a family member for more information.
