Michael Austin Mackie

Michael Austin Mackie, age 54, of West Bloomfield, Michigan, passed away at his residence on the morning of Friday, May 30, 2025.

Born on November 12, 1970, in Livonia, Michigan, Michael was the beloved son of the late Lois and James Mackie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lois and James Mackie, brother Joseph Mackie, and his parents-in-law, Nancy Christensen and George Zeabari.

Michael is survived by his devoted wife of 29 years, JoAnn Marie Mackie, and their two cherished children: Madeline Alise Lucci (age 27), and Ethan Michael Mackie (age 25).

He is also lovingly remembered by his sisters: Kimberly Irwin, Michelle (Jeff) Kinville, and Kathleen Mackie; his son-in-law, Nicholas Lucci; his son’s girlfriend, Tara McCarthy; his sisters-in-law: Linda (Gordon) Johnson, Lisa (Brian) Jeffrey, and Marie (Jerry) Jordan; and his brothers-in-law: Samuel (Ashley) Zeabari and John (Sally) Zeabari. Michael’s memory will be cherished by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and a wide circle of dear friends.

Michael lived a life full of warmth, humor, and passion. He was famous for his Thanksgiving turkey dinners and found great joy in celebrating the holidays surrounded by family and friends. An avid home cook and baker, his meals brought comfort and togetherness to many.

Michael was a life-long and proud Michigander who loved all Detroit sports teams. He had a deep love for astronomy, often spending nights gazing at the moon through his telescope, and found great pleasure in reading novels and watching his favorite films, including Toy Story (all of them), Bull Durham, Field of Dreams, and Jurassic Park.

Michael’s musical tastes were as wide-ranging as his passions, spanning Bruce Springsteen, Green Day, Garth Brooks, and many more. His most recent passion—and a point of personal pride—was mastering the art of “Splitting the G.”

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 4, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Home, 15451 Farmington Road, Livonia, Michigan 48154.

A funeral service will take place on Thursday, June 5, at 11:00 a.m. at Rosedale Gardens Presbyterian Church, 9601 Hubbard Street, Livonia, Michigan 48150.

“In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Michael’s name, an organization that was dear to his heart.”

Michael will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his generous heart, boundless humor, and the love he gave so freely.
