Maureen Trese King passed away on December 10, 2025. She was born on July 30, 1958 to Daniel and Mary Kathleen Furlong, both of whom predeceased her. She was the oldest of five children. Her brothers Kevin (Cindy), Dennis (Cheryl), and Sean (Mindy) and her sister Anne (John) survive her. She grew up in a loving home, and as part of a large extended Irish family. She was proud of both her US and Irish citizenships.
In 1977, she was pursuing her undergraduate studies and working part-time at Mt. Carmel Hospital in Detroit when she met another college student, Gary King, who would become her husband on May 16, 1981. Their lives were blessed with three children, Michael (Caitlin), Brian (Stefanie), and Shannon (Justin). Maureen was a full-time mom. No calling could have ever suited her more. She created a loving and nurturing home, and spent countless hours volunteering at her children’s schools while supporting their academic, civic, and athletic pursuits. They were the greatest pride of her life. Six sources of unending joy for her were her grandchildren, Maisie, Mary, Declan, Conner, Fiona, and Charlotte. She was also a source of great happiness to her many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
After her kids were grown, Maureen worked as a preschool teacher, and later as an Event Coordinator with the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan. She was a master quilter, and many members of her family and friends have her quilted handiwork adorning their homes. She was also an accomplished amateur travel agent. She and Gary traveled the world, but no spot was more endearing to her than her beloved Ireland. She was at her happiest when gathering with family and friends, and hanging out with the Snug Harbor crew once a year at Intermediate Lake.
Maureen was a person of deep faith, who lived all aspects of her life by that portion of the Prayer of St. Francis, “It is in giving of ourselves that we receive.” She could never do enough for her family, friends, or any stranger fortunate enough to cross her path.
