The family moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, in 1962 until returning to Michigan in 1965. Mary was ahead of the curve as a working mother, She joined Concorde Drugs 1973, and worked continuously until her retirement in 2012, to care for her husband, Daniel. Mary was socially outgoing and made many friends during her years working, among them the famed Detroit Tigers announcer, Ernie Harwell. She was a person who could always make those around her smile and laugh. More than this, she was known for her kind spirit and desire to help anyone in need. She was an active member of Forest Park Baptist Church, where she had met her husband, Daniel, when they were both 14 years old. She considered the congregation to be a second family and often helped out in various capacities.

“As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.” – St. Paul, Colossians 3:12-14
