M Douglas McKenzie was born on August 16, 1938 to Alba ne. Pepper and Robert McKenzie of Detroit Michigan. He married Patricia Lucille Moore August 12, 1961 by family friend and pastor, Bill Dumphy. He is survived by their four children Pam and Don Yankasky ne. McKenzie, Barbara and Jeff Weisserman ne. McKenzie, Phil and Lydia McKenzie, and Marcia Menard ne. Mckenzie. He had his loving grandchildren Spencer Amann, Brianna Yankasky, Ian McKenzie, Audrey Davis ne. Amann, Dylan McKenzie, Lindsay Yankasky, Derek McKenzie, Charolette Weisserman, Matthew McKenzie, Mackenzie Menard, Rachelle Menard, Mariah Cooper ne. Simmons. And his great grand children Athena and Ambrose Cooper. He is joining those family members who have gone on before him, his wife Pat, brothers Cameron and Ronald, sister in law Gaylene McKenzie ne. Smith, and his close companion Patty Lu who was the "best little guard dog of all."
Doug worked at Ford Motor Company as a chief programmer, retiring after 30 years. As a young man, he enjoyed hockey with his brothers Ron and Cam, raising chickens in his basement on Terry Street in Detroit and taking Pat to Redwing games at Olympia stadium. As a father, he coached hockey with his son, watched daughters Pam and Barbara figure skate and Marcia run track. He instilled in his children financial discipline, respect for parents and grandparents, following rules and being kind to strangers. His time was best spent outdoors, gardening, playing with their dogs, and visiting property in Cheboygen. His thoughtful advice was uncanny at times - a glimpse into his world and his particular view of humankind, nuggets of wisdom that were ahead of their time. You will be missed dad and grandpa.
