Leonard J. Hitz

Leonard J. Hitz Age 88 of Farmington Hills passed away peacefully the 9th of February surrounded by his family. He was reunited in Heaven with his wife Audrey and daughter Patricia. Leonard was born in Kouts, Indiana and graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Finance after serving in the Army Air Corp during the Second World War. On April 6, 1952, he married Audrey Freidinger in Bay City, Michigan. He worked for Ford Motor Co. his entire career and his work took him and his family from Chicago to Detroit to New Jersey and back to the Detroit area. His work also took him to Japan and Latin America and was profoundly affected by the people he met there. Leonard and Audrey were loving parents and gracious hosts and made lifelong friends wherever they lived. After 37 years with Ford, he retired in 1987 and lived in Farmington Hills and Sarasota Florida with his wife until her death in 2003. Together they enjoyed travel and exploring in the states and overseas. Leonard also began crafting with stained glass after his retirement and became well known in his community for his prolific works, which he often generously donated to charity fundraising events. He later expanded his work media to include fused glass and continued to create in both forms of art until the time of his passing. He was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Livonia and shared loving fellowship there with his brothers and sisters in faith. He made deep and lasting friendships with people of all ages and has left many heavy hearts in the wake of his passing. He served as president of the board of Woodhaven Retirement Community in Livonia and also served on the board of directors of Hillside Estates Association, Farmington Hills. He is survived by his brothers Jerry (Zenith) Hitz, Ted (Audrey) Hitz; sons James (Jill) Hitz, Thomas (Cindy) Hitz, Richard (Judith) Hitz, Robert Hitz; and by 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Visitation Wednesday, February 12 from 2-8 PM at the R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Home, 15451 Farmington Rd., Livonia. Funeral Service 11:00 AM, Thursday, February 13, at Apostolic Christian Church, 29575 Wentworth, Livonia with visiting from 10:00 AM until time of Service.
