Helen Bisland Morris, a cherished soul whose light shined brightly from June 6,1946, until December 28, 2025, passed from this earthly realm, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and unyielding devotion to her family and friends. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Helen ventured to America at the tender age of seven, proudly donning her Mackenzie Scottish kilt, a reflection of her heritage that she carried with grace throughout her life.
Helen's career as Development Manager at The Detroit Symphony allowed her to intertwine her love for music with her remarkable capacity for connection and community. Her work was not merely a profession; it was an embodiment of her belief in the power of art to bring people together. She was a vibrant member of the communities she touched, fostering relationships that would last a lifetime.
Her spiritual journey began early, as she became a Born Again Christian at the age of twelve. Faith was not just a part of her life; it was the very foundation upon which she built her existence. A devoted member of both Oakland Hills Community Church in Farmington Hills and previously Faith Bible Presbyterian Church in Trenton, Helen expressed her profound love for the Lord Jesus Christ through her active participation in Women's Bible Study, seeking to strengthen her bond with God and share that passion with those around her.
Helen's personality was marked by an unwavering sense of care and generosity. Always putting her family first, she was particularly proud of her son, Charles, who was the light of her life, reflecting the nurturing spirit that defined her. Her giving nature transcended the boundaries of her family, extending warmth and support to friends and community members alike.
She is survived by her beloved son, Charles (Tracie), and two sisters, Mary Mills (the late John) and the late Nancy Giammarinaro (the late Albert). Additionally, Helen's legacy continues through her nieces and nephews: Steve Mills (Terri), Cathy Smith (Todd), Carolyn Rayburn (Rich), and Annette Walker (Danny), along with her twelve great nieces and nephews, Rachel (Matt), Ryan (Kim), Rebecca, Michael (Galina), Johnathon, Andrew (Tori), Tyler (Lis), Gracie (Luke), Katie (Amos), Seth (Ashley), Gabriel (Alex), Hannah (Chris), Keith, Dale, the late Alex. Each one a testament to her life's work and the love that flourished in her presence. She also cherishes the memory of her parents, the late John and Helen Docherty, whose influence shaped her into the remarkable woman she became.
The community will gather to celebrate Helen's life on January 2, 2026, at RG & GR Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Livonia. The visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a Funeral Service at 3:00 PM, a time for remembrance, reflection, and honoring the enduring spirit of a woman who lived her life with purpose and compassion.
As we bid farewell to Helen Bisland Morris, until we meet again, we find solace in the indelible mark she has left upon our hearts—a gentle reminder of the beauty of faith, family, and selfless love.
She will be greatly missed. Please sign Helen's guestbook and share a memory.
