Gloria Worswick Ghabris (1945–2026) passed away in Las Vegas on January 4, 2026, following a difficult period of declining health. She was born in San Antonio, Texas, and was raised in Detroit, Michigan. She raised her own family in the Detroit suburbs. She also lived in Farmington, New Mexico; Ocala, Florida; and finally Las Vegas, Nevada.
Gloria earned a Master of Arts in Education in 1972 from Eastern Michigan University and her Library Science and Technology Bachelor’s Degree at Wayne State University in 2003. She taught in Cherry Hill School District and Wayne-Westland Community Schools, and had a second career as a librarian in Garden City, MI and Farmington, NM. She was deeply involved in church throughout her life. Music, dance, her pet dogs and cats, history, travel, and crafts were lifelong passions. She was a talented piano and accordion player, and danced with Miss Sandy’s Dance Studio.
Gloria is survived by her daughters, Sarah White (Kerry) of Las Vegas, NV; Janet Adkins of South Lyon, MI; Joanne Worswick of Albuquerque, NM; and Rachel Gray (Michael) of Centreville, VA; and her grandchildren, Jennifer White, Madeline Adkins, Nathan Adkins, and Sean White.
She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Earl Lax, Jr.; her mother, Melba Ree Lax; and her sister, Cynthia L. Barnes.
A visitation will be held at the R.G. & G.R.Harris Funeral Home, 15451 Farmington Rd., Livonia, Michigan, Saturday, January 31, 2026 from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.
Followed by a Committal Service at United Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 4800 Curtis Road, Plymouth, Michigan. at 1:00 PM.
