Gloria Edith Campbell 98, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away on April 27, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Gloria was born March 26, 1924, in Negaunee, Michigan. Parents, Samuel and Helen Veale. As a young woman, Gloria made the long trek to Detroit for work. She started work at Michigan Bell as a switch board operator and moved onto sales at Hudsons. Detroit is also where she met and married the love of her life, Gene Campbell. Gloria would tell the story of how they met. She said that she and a friend were coming out of a nickel movie theater and passed Gene on the side walk. Gloria boarded a trolly and moments later Gene pulled up along side in a car and asked them to get off. Gloria said 4 more stops. Gene waited the stops and when Gloria got off the trolly Gene offered to drive both of them home. Both agreed to the ride. Gloria with a smile would say she knew she had him when he turned and asked her friend where she lived first. They had a strong and beautiful marriage. They raised a family, started long-standing traditions and instilled strong family values. Both were active members at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Redford, Michigan Gloria is survived by her daughter Janet; grandchildren Gene (Jennifer) and Colleen; great-grandchildren Amber, Joshua, and Isabella. Gloria touched the lives of so many with her unconditional love, kindness, generosity, and great wisdom. It didn’t matter the time of day or late hours of the night, she was always there to provide advice and comfort to those she loved. The focus of her life after retirement was raising her granddaughter Colleen. They were inseparable best friends. Gloria would say it was Colleen that gave her so much joy and happiness that contributed to her living a long life. Everyone that knew them would agree! Preceded in death by her husband, Gene W. Campbell. Parents, Samuel and Helen Veale. Multiple brothers and sisters as well as aunts, uncles and cousin Gloria will be deeply loved and forever missed. Gloria in the last months of life would say goodnight by saying “Thanks for Everything” We love you Gram and thank you for everything!
