Edward Alba Sims

Edward Alba Sims, 75 passed away on Nov 10, 2025. He was born on November 20, 1949 to Wilfred and Ada Sims. He graduated from Livonia Bentley High School in 1967 and began working at Detroit Diesel corporation with his father. Shortly thereafter, he was drafted into the army. He completed basic training and then artillery training at Fort Still before being sent to Vietnam. In Nam, Edward served primarily as an infantry soldier and an artillery coordinator at or near the locations of Tay Ninh and Phu Loi for 14 months between 1970-1971. He was always very proud of his service to our country.

After his military service, Edward continued working for Detroit Diesel and later Romulus Engine Operations. He retired after 43 years from General Motors. Ed worked diligently to provide for his family. Some of his favorite pastimes included a round of golf, fishing, gardening, canning, and of course heckling his four grandchildren. Ed loved spending time at his favorite hangout, Stables bar and grill. He also enjoyed watching sports as he was a big fan of the Tigers, Lions, Red Wings and Wolverines. One of his most favorite things to do was to relax by a warm fire.

Edward will be greatly missed by his children, Edward (Kimberly) Sims, Stephanie (Derek Decker ) Sims; his grandchildren Tyler Sims, Owen Sims, Benjamin Sims, and Aubrey Decker. He is preceded in death by his parents, Wilfred and Ada Sims.

A visitation will be held at the R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Home, 15451 Farmington Rd., Livonia, Friday, November 14, 2025 from 1:00 - 5:00 PM with a  Funeral Service at 5:00 PM.
