Dr. Elmer T. Nelson

Dr. Elmer Trygve Thorburg Nelson went to be with his Lord at age 91, on January 1, 2011. He was preceded to this glory by his beloved wife Virginia, his only brother Guff, and one granddaughter, Jennifer. He is survived by his wife Audrey, who lovingly cared for him in his final years. He is also survived by his sons Gary (Deb), Craig (Donna) and his daughter Lori (Joel) Pike. He was the beloved grandfather of Lantz and Derrick, Melissa and Amy, and Veronica, Erika and Jenna. He is also the great grandfather of 12. Although his greatest delight was spending time with his family, when he retired from his solo family practice he was greatly missed by his patients. Many of them had already become life-long friends and he truly enjoyed their on-going relationship. Another love of Elmer was his music, having essentially taught himself to play the piano at an early age. This love of music continued throughout his life. He was the pianist and then the organist for many years at Covenant Community Church in Redford, Michigan. The Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM Friday at Covenant Community Church, 25800 Student, Redford. Visitation Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Home, 15451 Farmington Road, Livonia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Covenant Community Church Library Fund.
