Doris Carol Morris saw the humor in the rhyming of her name after marrying Dale Morris, her second husband, but even as a Gutiérrez (Daniel-1st marriage) or a Gunnels (maiden name), she was fondly known as Carol, Mom, Grandma, sister, and friend. Carol Morris, age 88, passed away on March 6, 2026 with her family present in Hartland, Michigan.
Carol was the eldest of six children born to Gordon and Mable Gunnels on October 18, 1937 in Overton County, Tennessee. She is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters Marge Eva Jane Brown and Myrtle Marie Dishman, first husband Daniel Gutiérrez, late husband Dale Morris, and stepsons Dale Morris Jr., David Morris, and Scott Morris.
Carol Morris is survived by and was the proud mother of Duren Gutiérrez (Autrey), Margo Gutiérrez, Eric Gutiérrez (Michelle), and Marcia Gutiérrez-Carpenter (Tim). She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 2 sisters Evelyn Faye Guthrie, Sandra Kaye Key (Roger) and her brother Tifford Lee Gunnels.
Carol lived most of her adult life in Michigan. She became a Registered Nurse, where she devoted her life to many different aspects of nursing care. She especially had a heart for the geriatric population and was zealously committed to the care of the elderly.
Carol also dedicated her life to sharing the Gospel with everyone she met; if you knew Carol, you knew of her commitment to her faith in Jesus! Oftentimes her first question to people when she met them is if they knew the salvation of Jesus. If the answer was “Yes,” then a praise session would follow. If your answer was “No,” then she would eagerly explain how the Lord forgives, saves, redeems, and restores, and she would often say she would be praying that the person would come to know the saving grace of Jesus.
She would eagerly participate in worship service. Carol loved to praise the Lord through song, but she didn’t exactly have a knack for singing; she was so off tune that she sometimes sang harmony without even knowing it! She didn’t care; she just loved to worship the Lord. Carol’s life-long journey was to share the message of Christ. Right now, she is in heaven, praising the Lord loud and proud.
