Charles D. Scheer

Charles D. Scheer, of Cadillac (formerly Farmington), Michigan, age 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 19, 2026.

Charles now joins his late wife, Janet, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage. He was a loving father to David (Michele) Scheer, Mary Scheer Bush (Robert Bush), Martha (late Harrison) Smith, and Elizabeth (Tom) McCathron. He was a proud grandfather to Emily, Alexander, Abby, Nathaniel, Kyle, Dallas, Langston, Bradley, and Jessica, and a devoted great-grandfather to Catherine, Hendrik, Harper, Ethan, Archer, and Sienna.

Charles touched countless lives, including those of his second wife of 12 years, Lona (Dawson) Scheer, and her family: his stepchildren Dawn (Brian) Nover, Tom (Rosina) Dawkins, and Todd Dawkins; and his step-grandchildren Tim, Todd, Kendall, Trey, Britany, Levi, Walker, Tystan, Grant, Brittnee, and Drew. His memory also lives on with his sisters Nancy (late Richard) Butler and Carol (Paul) Fennell. He is preceded in death by his siblings Robert Scheer, Alistair Scheer, and Catherine (late Robert) Mack.

Family and friends will always find Charles’ spirit in the sound of bagpipes and in the piano music that filled any room he entered. Those closest to him fondly remember days spent at Greenfield Village judging antique cars or showcasing one of his restored vehicles during the annual AACA festival. Charles retired from Farmington Public Schools as a high school automotive teacher, a role he truly cherished. He dedicated years of service to his community as a part-time firefighter and found joy fly-fishing along the Manistee River or walking the shores of Lake Michigan.

With a keen passion for genealogy, Charles built a rich historical record of his German and Scottish roots — a legacy his family proudly continues today.

A visitation will be held at the R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Home, 15451 Farmington Rd., Livonia, on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, from 2:00 PM until his Funeral Service at 4:00 PM.
