Annette (Walker) Melton August 23, 1937 – January 4, 2021 Born on 2nd Creek, KY, Annette is survived by her two daughters, Cecilia Ann Noeyack (Bernard), Westland, MI and Joyce Susan Canas, Livonia, MI. Filling Annette’s heart with joy have been her 5 grandchildren, Wesley, Nathan & Ashley Noeyack, Westland, MI, Andrew Allred (Katie), Royal Oak, MI and Steven Allred (Jewel), Bloomfield, NY. Annette was one of 9 children. She is survived by her sister, Aileen Baker, Swartz Creek, MI and brother, John Walker, Jamestown, TN. She was preceded in death by her husband Clyde Melton who she met at the age of 13 at Petry Memorial Baptist Church in Walkertown, KY. Growing up, Annette was very active in Sunday School and Girls Auxiliary (missions organization). Annette accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior at the age of 17 in a Training Union meeting. After becoming engaged at 15 yrs, Clyde & Annette (17 yrs) married on April 29, 1955 and began their life’s journey together. Clyde was in the U.S. Navy which led them to many homes across the country…Long Beach, CA, Norfolk, VA, North Kingston, RI & Long Island, NY. While Clyde served in Vietnam, Annette moved to Coldwater, MI to be near her sister. Annette treasured the friendships made over the years as one of the first things they did when arriving to a new home was to locate a church to worship in. After returning from Vietnam, Clyde & Annette returned to Norfolk, VA and were eventually transferred to the Dearborn & Detroit Recruiting Offices. This led them to their home in Romulus, MI & then Livonia, MI. After Clyde’s homegoing at age 51, Annette lived in Westland, MI, Atlanta, GA and then returned to Canton, MI and Westland, MI where she resided at the time of her homegoing. Annette and her family joined Merriman Road Baptist Church (MRBC), Garden City, MI, in February 1970. While a member at MRBC, Annette served in many roles…WMU Director, Preschool Director & teacher (3 yr olds & bed babies), VBS Director and Kitchen Cooking Teams. Annette served for nearly 30 years as an office staff member at MRBC. In her words, “This job allowed me to serve & meet the needs of many people…some I knew, some I didn’t. Our office staff laughed, rejoiced & cried with so many.” You could count on a warm smile and friendly greeting (possibly a candy mint too) from Miss Annette every Sunday as she staffed the MRBC Welcome Center. Annette counted it one of life’s greatest blessings to have worked for two of MRBC’s three pastors. The other office staff became dear friends and it was her joy to serve with each of them. One last word from Annette …“God has blessed me with so much and brought me through so many things. I am so thankful for the many friends made over the years…many that have become family to me. I look forward to seeing you all again in Heaven based on your relationship with Jesus Christ. If you could see me now!” Funeral Service Thursday, January 7, 2021, at 11am (instate starting at 10am) at Merriman Road Baptist Church, 2055 Merriman Rd., Garden City, MI 48135. Mrs. Melton will be laid to rest besides her husband, Clyde, at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI.
