Agnes Lorene Lookadoo

On Easter Sunday morning, April 17, 2022, Agnes Lorene Smoly Lookadoo at the age of 91 died in Wyandotte, MI after battling dementia for many years. Agnes was born to Frank and Bertha Mikel in 1930 in Georgia and grew up in a Christian family, along with her sister, Frankie, and brothers, Grady, Lewis, Russ, Jay, Jim and Julian. She made Jesus Christ her personal Savior at a young age. Agnes married Samuel Smoly, Sr. in 1953. Together they made their home in Dearborn, MI and raised three children: Linda (Smoly) Simpson (John), Samuel Smoly, Jr. (Jane) and Betty (Smoly) Rojek (Matthew). Agnes became grandmother to eight: Shawn, Daniel, Elizabeth, Steven, Martha, James, Samson and Savannah. She had 17 great-grandchildren. As a young mother, Agnes taught herself to sew and made clothes for her family, even suits for her husband, Sam! She was a down-home cook who sneaked the sour cream into Beef Stroganoff, knowing that her kids wouldn’t eat something with sour cream in it. She loved to garden and go fishing. After her youngest child became school age, Agnes became an Avon Lady and was very successful, winning countless contests and awards. She sold Avon products for over 50 years! As a volunteer in her church’s nursery, Agnes could quiet any fussy baby or fearful child. Agnes is preceded in death by her two husbands, Sam Smoly and Lawrence Lookadoo, whom she married in 1990, three years after the death of her beloved husband, Sam. Two of her grandchildren, Shawn and Steven Smoly, also preceded her in death. She is survived by her three children, six grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Agnes was a very generous and much-loved lady. She would want to be remembered for her love of family, can-do attitude and her deep faith in, and deep love of, Jesus Christ her Lord. Visitation Thursday, from 10am - 1pm at the RG & GR Harris Funeral Home, 31551 Ford Rd., Garden City. Funeral Service Thursday at 1pm.
