Obituary for Sanjua Napolen Cooper Sr.

Sanjua “Sonny” Cooper, Sr., died unexpectedly on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at the age of 66.

Sonny is survived by his wife, Debra; children, Selena, Sonny Jr (Wendi), and Sheila; siblings, Leonard (Delores) Cooper, Diane (Lloyd) Richardson, Andrea Cooper, Renell (Rahman) Apacanis, and Schleattia (James) Ponder; Nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and one on the way. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, L. C. & Wilma Cooper, his brother Marvin Cooper, and his granddaughter Nichole Crenshaw.

Sonny was born on December 21,1951 in Jackson, Tennessee to L. C. & Wilma. He graduated from Mackenzie High School in 1969, and went on to continue his education later in life at Highland Park CC with a degree in electrical science . He married Debbie, his Big Boy’s sweetheart in 1970. After moving his family to Inkster, Michigan, Sonny began working for the Chrysler Corporation as a Journeyman Electrician. Over forty eight years, the couple welcomed 3 children into their home and Sonny set about teaching them everything he could about life. His children remember him as an incredible father who put every ounce of his being into his family.

Sonny was a kind and generous man who loved his family and friends. He was passionate about life and enjoyed bowling, cruises, traveling in general, family gatherings, karaoke, dancing and music - always the life of the party. Sonny had a presence about him that radiated and lit up any room he was in.

Sonny was an active and dedicated member of the UAW Union, Local #51.

A funeral is scheduled for Thursday, July 26, 2018 at 2:02 pm; RG & GR Harris Funeral Home - Garden City
31551 Ford Rd., Garden City, MI 48135.

All are welcome to attend and celebrate Sonny’s life. The family would like to thank the staff at Heartland of West Bloomfield, and his caregivers at Henry Ford West Bloomfield, Taylor Dialysis, Beaumont Dearborn, and Garden City Hospital for their efforts and care throughout his hard fought battle to remain here with his family as long as possible, until God called him home.
